You can trust our team of Drupal experts to transition your site smoothly to the latest version of Drupal.
For over 10 years, we’ve been designing, building and supporting Drupal sites of all types, including large-scale migration and upgrade projects. We’ve determined the best import tools and organization methods to leverage for big content migrations and custom feature refactoring.
If you’re still on Drupal 7 or Drupal 8, your time is running out
Even though Drupal 7’s end of life was announced several years ago, the vast majority of Drupal sites on the web today still run on D7. But time is running short.
After the end date, the open source Drupal community that makes Drupal great will no longer support D7 with security and feature updates. Maintaining a Drupal 7 site after November 2022 will be inefficient. You’ll be more vulnerable to bugs and hackers unless you pay for extended support, which is not a technology-forward position for your organization to be in. We highly recommend staying on track with the continuous innovation cycle Drupal is known for.
Keep in mind that Drupal 8 sites will need to get to Drupal 9 even sooner than Drupal 7 sites. Drupal 8 End of Life is November 2021, due to a dependency issue that cannot wait. This is why we advise not simply going to Drupal 8 if you’re still on Drupal 7. Drupal 7 to Drupal 9 makes more sense.
Now’s the time to level up to Drupal 9
Trust us: you don’t want to wait too long to start this project.
Drupal 7 is very different structurally compared to Drupal 8 and Drupal 9. There are devils in the details. Drupal upgrade projects can take months to plan and deliver depending on the size and specific scope involved. No one wants to compromise their end product for lack of time to work with.
Our team brings the high level skillsets you want working on such an essential project. Most importantly, we know the pitfalls to avoid—learned through hard-won experience—to keep your project on budget and on schedule.
We’re working on transitioning all our Drupal 7 and Drupal 8 clients to Drupal 9 well ahead of the cutoff date. This brings everyone peace of mind, and let’s us budget plenty of time for testing and new feature implementations, as needed.
Getting Future Drupal Upgrades on the Same Track
"The Last Big Migration"
Drupal.org call this their last big migration. What do they mean? From this point forward, major evolutions of Drupal will not require wholesale platform upheavals. Core project architects promise a continuous innovation cycle delivering new capabilities twice a year. They predict subsequent major updates will be significantly easier.
Future Drupal version releases will happen on the same “track” as their preceding version.
How our Drupal Upgrades team can help you
Drupal 7 End of Life arrives November 2022. All D7 websites should move to Drupal 9 before then. If you’re on D7, we need to start working on this for you now. It takes time due to the vast differences between 7 and subsequent versions. We are offering free consultations for Drupal 7 upgrade projects.
Drupal 8 End of Life arrives November 2021. Yes, that’s even earlier than Drupal 7, because D8 has expiring dependencies that Drupal 7 doesn’t have. However, going from D8 to D9 is not so difficult, due to their similar architecture. We can validate that your Drupal 8 site is ready to upgrade, and handle this project with expert care.
Drupal 9 debuted in June 2020 and all Drupal websites should be running Drupal 9 by 2022. Drupal 10 will succeed it at a date TBD, but Drupal upgrades after D9 will be much easier to manage. Future major evolutions of Drupal will not require wholesale platform upheavals.
As long as you keep up with all your core and contrib updates, the migration to Drupal 10 from Drupal 9 should be relatively easy.
Replatform + Redesign Projects
Have you been considering a redesign or functional site changes? Tell us about your it. Sometimes a redesign can actually simplify a re-platforming. Also, it makes little sense to invest in customizing your Drupal 7 site just to turn around and rebuild it for Drupal 9. Take this opportunity to finally cut ties with old technical debt or design/content modes that aren’t working for you anymore.
It makes dollars and sense to incorporate these changes into the big picture of D7 and D8 end of life and your transition to Drupal 9.
“From providing support when needed to project leadership when asked, the Entermedia team has always come through for us. We’ve been counting on Entermedia for five years to maintain several high-traffic websites in a competitive space, and have also engaged them for custom design/development projects. This crew does not disappoint. Not only have they enhanced our users’ frontend experience, improving engagement and search performance, they’ve also simplified and streamlined our backend experience, making all of our jobs easier. And we know Entermedia has our back and will reply within minutes via slack or email if we need them. Where would we be without them? Don’t want to know.”
